"Umaibō, Fries, and... / Coffee Milk Candies, Young Donuts and..." (うまい棒とポテフと… / コーヒー牛乳キャンディとヤングドーナツと…) is the first episode of the Dagashi Kashi anime. It was originally aired on January 7, 2016 and the dub was aired on February 10, 2016.

Plot[]
Kokonotsu wants to be a mangaka, but Yō forces him to be next-in-line as the 9th head. While they are about to fight, Hotaru comes in asking if she's in the shop. She then asked Yō to work at her family's candy developer, but Yō refuses since he cannot leave the shop if Kokonotsu doesn't want to inherit the business. Thus, Hotaru decided to stay until Kokonotsu makes his decision.
Later, Kokonotsu meets Tō and Saya at their family cafe and told them about Hotaru without mentioning her name. Saya then meets her in person at a muddy field without any idea that she's the one Kokonotsu mentioned about and helped her. She lets Hotaru to take a shower as she gets new clothes for her and while taking her shower, Tō comes in the bathroom and sees her naked. Saya caught Tō and pushed him away from Hotaru even though she introduces herself to him with no shame. Hotaru then gets a cup of coffee from Saya and told her it's on the house. Then, Hotaru tells her that it's her first time visiting a cafe and told her reason why she came to town.
Differences Between the Manga and Anime[]
- Yō contracted his back muscles to form Pochi-kun's face though this was not seen in the anime.
Trivia[]
- The first eyecatch used was from Chapter 4's[1] cover page and the third eyecatch used was from Chapter 8's[2] cover page.
- There is going to be a figurine based on the second eyecatch by figure maker Pulchra with no announced release date as of yet[3]
- Interestingly, the second eyecatch was from Chapter 19's[4] cover page and that chapter was not adapted into the anime.
